PROGRESS is a national consortium with the aim to establish prognostic markers for the course from pneumonia to severe sepsis and options for the monitoring of therapy. Markers comprise genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. Results will also be used to establish a better understanding of pathogenesis and may give impulses for new therapeutic strategies
