  • PD Dr. Dr. Michael Kiehntopf, Universitätsklinikum Jena, Institut für Klinische Chemie und Laboratoriumsdiagnostik

Subproject 2 of the CAPSyS consortium “Deep phenotyping in patients with severe CAP and new analyses in established cohorts” contributes to the systems medicine approach of the consortium by in-depth characterization of patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP, Figure 1) and by measuring additional molecular parameters in existing biomaterials. These data will strengthen mathematical modelling in subprojects 1 and 3. As an expansion of the PROGRESS-CAP study, ventilated CAP patients will be subjected to a detailed clinical and extensive biochemical characterization, inluding transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics of the blood.

Importantly, these analyses will be extended to the alveolar microbial and host proteome, as well as the respiratory microbiome. From existing patient cohorts (CAPNETZ, SEPNET, PROGRESS) new information and measurements will be extracted and made available for the biomathematical modeling process in CAPSyS subprojects 1 and 3.
